
Apple’s least expensive Mac Mini, released for the Indian market. It has been priced at Rs. 44,900 and Rs. 64,900. Recently the device was introduced in U.S, at $699, is more energy-efficient than its ancestor and has stronger graphics capabilities while the Snow Leopard Server edition was available at $999.
If you remember than Apple Mac Mini, is the Macintosh first desktop which is mouse and keyboard free. According, to Apple Mac Mini is meant for those users who had been using some traditional PC and want to switch. However, if you want to use Apple Mac Mini, you have to have your own mouse, keyboard, and display.
But, now Apple has decided to update its Mac Mini by adding the basic desktop model to the list of products it has upgraded or launched this year. However, redesigned computer now uses an aluminum unibody construction which is very much similar to that used for Apple’s iMac and MacBook Pro offerings. It is also said an HDMI port has been featured to the Mac Mini, making it easier to connect to a TV.
The Mac Mini is packed with the Nvidia GeForce 320M processor, which guarantees to delivers up to twice the graphics speed of the previous model. Further, Apple has also added a new HDMI output for connecting the Mac Mini to a high-definition television, and a new SD card slot for transferring photos and videos from a digital camera.
Apple has also upgraded the dimensions- the Mac Mini is smaller than before, measuring 7.7 inches square and 1.4 inches thick. The power supply has been made internal, which helps reducing the overall system size by 20%, according to Apple.
If you will look at the base configuration, the Mac Mini model includes a 2.4-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor; a 320-GB, 5,400-RPM hard disk drive; and 2 GB of DDR3 SDRAM, which is expandable to 8 GB. The system also carries a slot-loading SuperDrive optical drive, four USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, one FireWire 800 port, and wireless connectivity in the form of Airport Extreme 802.11n and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR.
Since Mac Mini also features Snow Leopard Server model, which includes a 2.66-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, two 500-GB, 7,200-RPM hard drives, and 4 GB of DDR3 SDRAM, expandable to up to 8 GB. It seems that, Apple has tried to add a faster processor, more system memory, and a larger and faster hard drive.
Since Apple flashed the Mac Mini server last October and also refreshed its entry-level desktop. But, it looks like Apple, has again targeted the higher end of the computer market. However, the price has been tagged too high, which may affect the sales.
